Overview of Undergraduate Programs
Students may choose to major in communication studies, broadcasting or
journalism . Majors are advised by specialists in each program area.
The major in communication studies emphasizes theory and applied skills development
including speaking, listening, writing, and critical analysis. Course
topics range from interpersonal, small group, organizational, public,
and mediated communication.
Students in broadcasting may include specialized courses in broadcast news, performance, sales or production in their course of study. Journalism majors may concentrate in print journalism, electronic journalism or public relations/public information.
All Communication Department majors are required to complete a minor or second major in a discipline outside the department.
