Department of Communication

Facilities

Student working in the studioThe focus of the Communication Department's facilities is providing student access to current technology. The Department houses a three bay digital radio production facility. These facilities are open evenings with student staff for independent classwork.

Two television studios house separate control rooms with, a total of six studio cameras and teleprompter capability in each studio. The main studio will convert to digital technology by Fall 2008. For students working on field production, the School of Arts and Performances has a 22-station G-5 Mac Lab with Final Cut Pro and other digital editing software. Television studio and edit facilities are open evenings for student use.

Student working on the StylusJournalism/public relations students work extensively in the fully computerized journalism laboratories. They also submit work to the weekly student newspaper, The Stylus, and have access to the Stylus' state-of-the-art computerized production and design equipment.

Student practicing with the equipment All students are welcome to work on-air or behind the scenes at WBSU 89.1 The Point, the student-operated FM radio station. A completely digital production and broadcast facility, WBSU 89.1 The Point is on the air 24 hours a day and is the largest and most powerful radio station in the SUNY system.

All students interested in television production may become members of the BTV Club, which produces a half hour program twice monthly as well as a weekly newscast.
