Mission Statement

In recognition of the importance of spiritual growth in the development of the whole person, the mission of the Newman Catholic Community at SUNY Brockport is to:

  • Promote and encourage the spiritual growth of all members of the College through opportunities for prayer, growth and study.
  • Reach out to all members of the student community and support their growth in body, mind and spirit.
  • Nurture a sense of community that respects and honors diversity.
  • Support the development of a strong interfaith ministry and community on campus.
  • Encourage generous service to those in need.
  • Be present and available to listen, console, and challenge with love.
  HOW YOU CAN GIVE:
Thank you for considering a gift to the Newman Catholic Campus Ministry as we serve the growing needs of students of SUNY Brockport and the local community.  Your contribution will make a difference in our ministry mission.

Cash/Annual Gifts: Intended as unrestricted revenue that will help us

Support & strengthen programs for students, including:
        FREE Exam Week Soup Suppers
        RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation)
        Bible Study
        Retreats

Building Maintenance
The Newman Center at Brockport is unique among campus
ministries in having a fully-functioning church building of our own.
This affords us wonderful opportunities for ministry, worship  and service to the entire campus community, but it also entails expenses which other campus ministries do not incur

~Mold Abatement - our expense: $30,000

~Newman House Roof replacement: apprx. $35,000

~Repair and upkeep of the Chapel and offices

~Repair and upkeep of Newman House

~General operating expenses;

utilities, building repair, etc.

In-Kind Gifts: Gifts of equipment or goods that would be useful additions to our ministry.  Areas of specific need include:
   A Computer
   A printer
   Copy machine
   Office equipment and supplies
Catholic Bibles Several years ago we received a donation of several boxes of Bibles.  We have been distributing them at the rate of perhaps a dozen a year. Since Sept 11, however, that rate has gone up drastically.  We have been unable to keep Bibles on the shelves--we are now down to our last crate.  There is a real need here, and we are unable to afford more (the cheapest ones are approximatels $10/copy).

Memorial and Tribute Gifts: Gifts that honor living individuals or deceased friends or loved ones.   Any gift may be designated in memory of or in honor of a loved one.

Offer a donation to purchase statuary, icons and church furnishings:
(You can work with the Chaplains to provide special items for our worship together. If you are interested in this, contact MargotI

Mass Intention:
You can request a Mass dedicated to a person or intention you want us to remember and pray for as a community.  Contact Margot or Shelley 637-5036.

Bequests: You can designate a specific amount of money, a percentage of your estate, or the remainder of your estate after other bequests are satisfied to the Newman Oratory.  Adding a codicil to an existing Will is a simple process that begins by making your intentions known to your attorney.
