This month, 2008 SUNY Brockport graduate, Amanda Hartman was announced as the Buffalo Broadcasters Association’s first ever “Tim Russert Medal of Merit” award winner. Hartman was selected because for her continued excellence in broadcast journalism. “I’m honored to receive an award that is named after a man that was so dedicated to his field,” said Hartman. As a BTV alumnus, she served as News Director for three semesters and helped lead dozens of BCN broadcasts. Hartman has also just completed her yearlong internship with Rochester’s Democrat & Chronicle, where she helped launch “RocLoop.com,” a local online news source for college students. “Although I have moved from broadcast journalism to print and online,” explains Hartman, “my roots in broadcast have already proved a great asset in my graduate studies”
Hartman is also a graduate of the Finger Lakes Community College in Canandaigua, N.Y. She is currently studying at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. Hartman has been invited to receive the award at the annual Buffalo Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame ceremony.
